“Life can get fucked up fast when you try to be a pleaser. Because people won’t ever be pleased, not even if you drop them ass-first into paradise. They like bitching too much.”
― Charles Frazier, Nightwoods
Charles Simic, Preachers Warn
Thinking about this beautiful poem all the time.
Lily Loofbourouw wonders “Why We Watch Netflix in the Middle of the Night”, and takes a look at how Netflix has changed the way we interact with our favorite shows:
Netflix isn’t just The Way We Watch Now, the way Annie said, it’s The Way We Go Back To Sleep Now too. These days we can choose the perfect mood to chase away the nightmare, or the anxiety, or — less successfully — the sad. TV has gotten a lot more intimate, more entwined with our subconscious, closer. In this sense, shows have come to function as music, more symphonic poem than story, more repeating theme than plot.
Interesting… thought provoking.
